Ruyterwacht Senior Centre is an autonomous non-profit organisation that operates a Centre for elderly people (over 50 years old) in and around the Ruyterwacht suburb in Cape Town, South Africa. 


The name Ruyterwacht appears for the first time in the history of South Africa during the second half of the 1600's. According to Dr. Dan Sleigh (Die Buiteposte) it was one of the first outposts that Jan van Riebeeck established along the Liesbeech River. The purpose of the outposts were to be an early warning system against cattle-raids by the Khoisan.

BADISA is registered as a non-profit organization and as a public welfare organization.


Oversight over the management of the Centre is the responsibility of our Governing Body, assisted by the Executive committee.

The Governing Body consists of volunteers (currently 10) that each serves a 3-year term, and that takes responsibility for specific portfolios. Some members share portfolios, while some take care of more than one. Here is a list of the current portfolios:


Ruyterwacht Senior Centre currently uses the following personnel (permanent and part-time) in order to perform the day-to-day tasks at the Centre:

Co-ordinator/Manager (permanent, full-time)
Administrative Assistent (permanent, Full-time)
Accountant (permanent, shared with other NPO's)
Social Worker (shared position)
2 drivers (permanent, full-time)
Kitchen-manager (permanent full-time)
Cashier (permanent, part-time)
Several casuals as required
